Transforming a Living Room into a Family Friendly Space
Recently I was asked by a client to furnish their basically empty Living Room. We discussed design preferences and best ways to create an “adult room” that was also inviting for all of the family. Our goal was to design a room that would be used all of the time, not just on special occasions.

Our project started with almost a clean slate –

After drafting floor plans, I had my marching orders on preferences, and scale of furnishings.
Our first purchase was this sofa.

We quickly dressed up the look with accent pillows that picked up the red in the room. Since the rug was the wow feature, we didn’t want to add additional color, but kept the room neutral with accents.
We next purchase two swivel chairs to allow you to enjoy the fireplace or turn to the piano and have a family night of music. Small side table was previously purchased by client and frame of coffee table inherited.

And here is the look so far.
A very important component of the room was to purchase a chaise that would look fabulous, and also be very comfy for reading and relaxing.
My client has shared with me that she absolutely LOVES the chaise and reads there all of the time! Of course that makes me feel soooo good!!! Mission accomplished.
Next, adding the final accessory- window treatments.
Here is Deborah Cronin of Leatherwood Designs, and myself installing the drapery.

Beautiful! I love the focus on the red, but then the blue chaise off to the side… comfortable elegance.
Thank you Kelley, a fun project to execute!
