Design Inspirations from Monte Carlo
Traveling always expands my design consciousness and inspiration is at every turn. New ways to create magic for my clients.
This summer I had the opportunity to visit Monte Carlo – the land of the rich and famous.
Let me share with you some of the highlights.
Monte Carlo Is A True Inspiration
Monte Carlo was much more built up then I expected.
Unlike the quaint provincial towns of Portofino or Sardinia, Monte Carlo was a bustling dense area of high rise residences blended with the allure and charm of the Palace where Prince Albert and his family now live or the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception where Princess Grace married Prince Rainier III.
The Casino de Monte-Carlo was our first stop. The current Beaux Arts style Casino was transformed in 1878-79 by Charles Garnier, the French architect who built the famed Paris Opera House- Palais Garnier in 1878.

Nearby the casino is the famous hair pin turn that challenges the drivers of the famed Formula One motor race Monaco Grand Prix, held every May.
Next stop was a drive by Princess Caroline’s home.
And Princes Stephanie’s home. Heavy security really didn’t allow us to see very much.
A highlight was the tour of the church where Grace Kelly – our American Princess, married Prince Rainier III, the Prince of Monaco on April 18, 1956.
The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception
Princess Grace & Prince Rainier are both entombed here.
Next the Grand Palace where Prince Albert and his family now reside.
You can see the guards protecting the residence.
AH yes, and the wealth – one yacht bigger and grander than the next.
Monte Carlo is a truly magical place one should put on their bucket list!

Great tour of Monte Carlo! Thanks for the pics and the narration. Maybe you will design a palace one day and you can use some of the tour as an inspiration!
There is always something that you learn from traveling, new approaches, different ways to design…wouldn’t it be grand to do a palace!
Thanks for sharing Monte Carlo through your pictures. I can see why travel inspires you as a designer….a history of arichetectural styles that can be appreciated through actually seeing them.
Thank you Charlotte, I’m glad you enjoyed my blog. The architecture in Europe in cities not totally destroyed by wars is amazing especially when you consider when they were built and without all of the modern equipment we have today.
